Wow. How sad. Craney was definitely a complete original. I love his playing on 'Brother to Brother'.

Imaginary Voyage was another inspirational one. Thanks for reminding me of it.
Oh, man. Just saw this. /:-[
A 4-letter word slipped out as a result of sudden & instantaneous reaction...I am thoroughly bummed...for we that are still here, that is.
My first exposure to MC was back in the 80s w GV-BTB. I was so into NP ATT, & the school friend who hipped me to this album [AWA JLP Live '79 w Casey S, at the same time] remarked how i was gonna be saying "NP who?!" as a result...& was he ever right.
Aft hearing that landmark masterpiece, i went back & checked the JLP awa Tull stuff. Killer. I'll never forget those moments in time...in addition to all the obvious other great drummers' moments, what a catharsis for me.
Thanks for the inspiration AWA priceless "lessons" learned via listening to your recordings, Mark. Rest in Peace...from one drumming brother to another...brother. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
It just rained; a little thunder...some tenacious tag-team-drumming going on "above" in the Great Bandstand Beyond w Mark, Jeff, Carlos, Tony, Elvin, Buddy, Art, Philly, Max, & Bonzo [etc]...
My prayers go out to his family and friend's. GREAT player for sure.

What a tremendous player!! I first
heard him on Imaginary Voyage, with
Jean-Luc Ponty. What a terrible loss!
How tragic! I will miss him - a truly
gifted player.

Very sad news. I have not listened a lot to his work but I have listened Brother to Brother hundred of times. I love his playing, great drummer.
Wow, this is ultra sad. I studied with Mark back in the 80's. Super nice guy and one of my all-time faves.
Incredibly sad. A great, great drummer.
I found a little information here: Mark Craney
That is really sad to hear. Mark was a really cool guy that had a different sense of humor. He could just crack you up without saying a whole lot. I remember helping out at his benefit at GC in Hollywood back in the 80's when he needed help raising money for medical bills. So many great drummers were there including Gregg, Vinnie, Steve Smith, Terry, Doanne, Myron, Jeff, Carlos, The Appice brothers, Louie, Tris, and many others. It was a big drum jam in the parking lot with at least 20 kits setup and miked. Over the PA they were playing great tracks of his including some very hip Tower of Power live stuff he did right before he became sick.
It's such a loss. He would have created so much more beautiful drumming if he hadn't become ill.
My condolensces to his family and friends......
OMG, my condolences. [img]graemlins/broken_heart.gif[/img]
